OK everyone I’m doing this on the public one so that everyone will hopefully be able to see it. We are self-consciously aware that we are cultivating identity, that underground theory is an emerging boutique consumer phenomenon, etc etc. We hope it is more than just that, but because it participates in platform capitalism, it is also part of the very thing it seeks to distinguish itself from. Rather than resisting this we are embracing it, but critically. So with that said, what’s some tour MERCH ideas?
Examples:
- @Nance actually already made a skateboard deck with the Theory Underground URL on it… I can’t find those photos right now so I’ll just add them later once they are found.
- @Maddaddam made a parody T-shirt with AI not too long ago based on Nance’s dream of wanting to be a PhD-having genteleman and general knower of things (or something like that) and I think inside-joke stuff like this based off of stuff from the books I’m publishing this year are an epic idea for merch. Underground Theory, for instance will have Nance saying that very phrase, so I think a T-shirt like that would be awesome.
- I want a shirt, beanie, and stickers that say GIVE ME TIMENERGY or “Timenergy or Bust”
- A a shirt, beanie, and stickers that say “FREE MIKEY”
- A shirt that says or shows something that indicates one has done the FTKNWTD course with Mikey… maybe something like “Mikey-McGowan-Zizekianism” with a photo of FTKNWTD or something…
- I want a shirt version of that thumbnail used for the “In Defense of Theory” stream where it has Zizek coming down from a UFO and all that…
Etc…
In addition to all that, I’ve got big questions about what is the easiest, most affordable, but also best quality merch site… ideally I just add the words/graphics/logo to a prefigured template and then add the product to my site via WordPress plugin tied to that website’s extension so people can buy direct from the site, get whatever color/size they want, and the rest is taken care of by the website. I’m not sure what’s best for this but I know Streamlabs OBS has its own Merch arm… if that shit is quality and relatively affordable that might be the solution. ANY IDEAS??? It’s June 1st and we need to have this figured out by July! Any help is great.
